Public Authorities Do Not Encourage Alcoholic Beverage Consumption
(CNT)Prime Minister, Head of Government Philemon Yang has refuted accusations that public authorities in Cameroon encourage citizens to consume alcoholic beverages.
This was during a question and answer session at the National Assembly chaired by the House Speaker Honourable Cavaye Yague Djibril on Wednesday June 13, 2018.
The question on alcohol beverage consumption Cameroon News Today- CNT gathered is one out of three questions put to the Prime Minister by three Members of Parliament.
The question on alcoholism was raised by Hon Bapo Lipot who regretted the ease with which alcoholic drinks gave been accessible to all classes of the population including students, whose schools are next to beer parlours.
The response of PM Yang was legal and constitutional: “In Cameroon, there is a thick legal arsenal supplemented by several control measures to regulate the consumption of alcohol and one of the laws governing advertising is its section 62 which makes provision for punishing violators of certain restrictive measures with a fine of up to FCFA 50millions.

As Cameroon News Today- CNT learned, PM Yang insisted that the fight against the vice is long and necessitates the collaboration of all. Mr Yang told MPs that while on the field and in their constituencies, they must engage youths on the issue related to alcoholism and other social ills, with the aim of dissuading them from indulging in these ills.
