The Islamic Development Bank has approved a CFAb21.3 billion grant for the finance of the second phase of the Chari and Logone Integrated Rural Development Project in the Far North Region of Cameroon.
The project was launched in October 4 in the town of Kousseri, the divisional capital of Logone and Chari in the Far North Region by Minister Alamine Ousmane Mey.
According to the Minister, the project is aimed at removing one of the main constrains to various value chains while encouraging rural entrepreneurs in the division which still remains among the areas where development indicators are the lowest in the country.
In details, the project intends to open up the main production areas and connect the main markets through the rehabilitation or creation of 450km road ways
The project is also aimed at increasing production and productivity in the division as well as upgrading the socio economic infrastructure, diversity and sources of income especially for young people and women.
It is part of a dynamic development process for Cameroon in general and the far north region in particular.

It compliments other projects already underway in this part of the country.These include the 13,000 hectares of hydro agricultural developments which is part of a three year emergency plan for accelerated growth in the region.
Worthy of note is the fact that the Far North region of the country is one which since 2013 been pricked by terrorist attacks from the Islamic sect book haram.
