The forceful occupation of the stage at the house chamber of the National Assembly by MPs of the opposition party, SDF during Thursday’s plenary sitting has prompted the house speaker, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril to momentarily suspend deliberations.
The SDF party MPs moved the motion after presenting a preliminary objective to the Scrutinization of the 2016 Settlement Bill which was contained in a report presented by Hon. Koa Luc on behalf of the Committee on Finance and Budget.
The opposition MPs later walked to the stage to halt proceedings at the plenary hall. To them, the problems in the North West and South West regions should be addressed and that an open debate should be done on the matter. Failing to do so, these MPs say no work will be done at the National Assembly.
At this time, it was 11:18 AM, the House Speaker; Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril called for calm and eventually suspended the sitting. The plenary hall was occupied mainly by the SDF MPs.
Thirty eight minutes later, all the MPs and government members regained their seats in the hall for the sitting to resume but the SDF MPs seized the stage again. The house speaker had to suspend the plenary sitting for the second time.
It still remains uncertain about the time real business will regain its footings at the National Assembly.
