The cost of the yearly pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia moves from CFA 2.214.000 in 2018 to 2.529.000 in 2019.Minister Paul Atanga Nji explains and details government’s assistance.
The 315.000 increase which kept muslims wondering, was largely commented by the press.
The Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, granted a press briefing, on 6th May in Yaounde to set the record straight.
Minister Paul Atanga Nji identified four factors that explains the price rise.
# An increase in inter-urban transport in Mecca by 1000 SAR , an equivalent of 175,000frs
# An increase in the cost of Visa requirements by 623 SAR, an equivalent of 109.000frs
# An increase in the value of the dollar (from 590frs in 2018 to 630 in 2019)
#Increase in the value of the Saudi Arabian currency SAR (from 157 frs in 2018 to 175 in 2019)
The Minister stated that five other African countries have also witnessed the same increase .

# Tchad , 1.650.000 ( for low cost tariff plan)
Assuring the muslim community, the Minister said that a number of measures have been put in place to improve on the comfort of the pilgrims during the stay in Saudi Arabia.
# Part of the delegation will henceforth be lodged in air-conditioned tents with mattresses
# At Medine, pilgrims will be lodged only 500metres away from the Prophet’s mosque
# At Makkah, pilgrims will be lodged at least 2km from the central mosque at Kab’aa.
# All pilgrims will be served two meals a day.
As if to accompany and show concern the pilgrims, the Head of State has made some offers.
#Five liters of Holy water to be transported to Cameroon for all pilgrims
At the end of the press conference, the heads of the Muslim communities submitted suggestions on Hadj 2019 to be channeled to the Head of State.
