The President of the Cameroon Football Federation, Seidou Mbombo Njoya has described his first one hundred days at FECAFOOT as satisfactory.
He made the assessment this Monday 22nd April 2019 during a press briefing at the FECAFOOT headquarters.
During the hour long exchange with the press, the FECAFOOT President discussed in detail, the different activities carried out during his first three months.
On infrastructural development, Seidou Mbombo Njoya said his priority project is the construction of a befitting football house.
He said football structures and soccer grounds will be improved in the North West, South, Adamaoua and Far North regions to encourage amateur and professional football.
Another project in the pipeline is the rehabilitation of the CAF Technical Centre at Odza with the financial assistance of CAF.
Competitions overseen by FECAFOOT
Seidou Mbombo Njoya indicated that the national women and men football leagues are rolling on effectively.
Amateur football and regional football championships have been successfully launched while the junior football championship will be put in place in the very near future.
At the international level, Seidou Mbombo Njoya discussed Cameroon’s participation at the U-17 AFCON in Tanzania, upcoming competitions like the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France and 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
He said CAF’s decision to let Cameroon organise 2020 CHAN is a laudable. The event will improve the country’s preparedness for the 2021 AFCON.
Governance and Administration
Management of FECAFOOT has been improved to check corruption, ensure transparency and instill staff discipline.
According to Seidou Mbombo Njoya, adhoc committees have been set up to probe into problem of players’ unpaid salaries and many other issues.
During the past three months, FECAFOOT staff have been frequently schooled on good administrative procedures, job ethics and relationships.
The restructuring of the National Technical Office for football at the FECAFOOT he says, one of the finished projects that has added credibility to the Federation.
FECAFOOT in partnership with other institutions
Few partnerships have been brokered during the past three months. The most recent is the recent Memorandum of Understanding sealed between FECAFOOT and Coq Sportif
A second agreement to be signed soon will bring together the Cameroon Football Federation and the Qatari Football Association for the modernisation of football in Cameroon.
FECAFOOT also plans to renew contracts and work closer to Orange Cameroon.
FECAFOOT connecting with the press
To improve on the quality of reporting on FECAFOOT issues, the later has inniated a workshop to train journalists on football matters and the handling of fake news.
The new President says FECAFOOT has maintained a win-win relation with government, football stakeholders, partners and international institutions like CAF and FIFA.
Seidou Mbombo Njoya once again referred journalists to FECAFOOT’s social media accounts (facebook, twitter and youtube) as a means to check fake news and to keep football actors and fans permanently updated.
He concluded by stating “We are here to serve football”.
Seidou Mbombo Njoya was elected President of FECAFOOT on 12th December 2018. On this 22nd April 2019, he has been President for 102 days.
