MINPOSTEL statistics on the mobile payment of the CEMAC zone reveals 98 million transactions by Mobile Money amounting to FCFA 1 1631 billion in 2017.
In an interview with the press on May 11, Minister of Post and Telecommunications Minette Libom Li Likeng, gave statistics on the mobile payment of the CEMAC zone, counting for the year 2017.
MINPOSTEL indicates the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) posts 98 million transactions by Mobile Money which generated FCFA 1 1631 billion in 2017.
According to Minette Libom Likeng, 39% of these transactions were made in Cameroon where the penetration rate of mobile telephony is 80%. Compared to the year 2016, there is almost a double jump in mobile payment transactions in the CEMAC zone.

According to the Central Bank, Cameroon News Today- CNT gathered, the refills of electronic purses, that is to say, the cash deposits of the customers in the points of sale, reached FCFA 735 billion in 2016, of which FCFA 663 billion for the Mobile Money.
“Apart from Chad and Central African Republic, you can pay your electricity bill with Mobile Money. Water bills are payable by Mobile Money only in Cameroon. However, it is only the customers of some Cameroonian Water agencies that benefit from this service”, BEAC, in its report covering the period 2011-2016.
