The budget law N° 1017/PJL/AN, the 2016 Settlement Bill of the Republic of Cameroon for the 2016 financial year has been adopted at the National Assembly.

This was done at the end of deliberations in a Plenary Sitting on November 23 at the House Chamber of the National Assembly. This sitting was characterized by an uproar from the Social Democratic Front, SDF Party Members of Parliament. They were decrying the damages caused by the socio-political crisis in the two Anglophone regions.

The SDF Parliamentary Group Leader, Hon. Joseph Banadzem on behalf of the party’s MPs in his preliminary objection regarding the 2016 settlement bill, called for an open debate on the Anglophone crisis before the continuation of proceedings at the Plenary Hall.

After the House Speaker, Cavayé Yéguie Djibril overruled the objection and debate call, the entire SDF Parliamentary group took to the rostrum while chanting songs for change. This led to the suspension of deliberations by the House speaker on two occasions.

Four bills were initially programmed for debate and adoption during the Plenary Sitting. Finally, only the Settlement Bill was adopted, pending Bills N° 1014/PJL/AN, N° 1016/PJL/AN and N° 1018/PJL/AN for debates and adoption.
