After close to six months of vacancy, the Vatican this March 24, appointed Julio Murat as new apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon.
The announcement rendered this March 24, 2018 comes as a relieve to many Catholics who had long wondered why after up to six months of vacancy, the Vatican was still reluctant to appoint a new apostolic nuncio to Cameroon.
This situation had triggered media men and religious analyst to say Cameroon was at war with the Vatican. Two major reasons accounted for such views, firstly, the controversy that surrounded the dead of Bishop Benoit Bala and secondly the urgency in which Mgr Piero Pioppo was freed from his duty in Yaoundé and immediately commissioned in Indonesia was eyebrow raising.
By appointing Julio Murat, the Vatican has thereby proven, diplomatic ties between both countries are presently fluid and vibrant.
Julio Murat who speaks among others French and English was born in Turkey in 1961.
He was before his recent appointment apostolic nuncio first in Malawi then in Zambia.
