The Trade Forum to attract investors which was to be organised between Cameroon and China in the course of President Paul Biya’s State visit to China has been cancelled.

It could be considered as another slap on the face of the Cameroonian people and a thrust on the image of Cameroon at the international arena that a forum of this magnitude on the heels of a State visit is cancelled.

As Cameroon News Today- CNT gathered, the trade forum which was meant to attract Chinese investors to Cameroon, which was to hold in the course of President Paul Biya’s visit to China, has been annulled.

When preparations are already finalised and closed to 111 flight tickets and hotel reservations already booked, businessmen and organisations received the message like a time bomb.

The disturbing news was made public on March 19, 2018 by an Authority in the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development.

“Ladies and Gentlemen;

Following the inconveniences caused by the cancellation of the Beijin Forum scheduled for sidelines of the visit of the Head of State to China on March 22 and 23, 2018… I would allow myself in this connection express our deep regret to all business, organisations and consular chambers that have played important role in the context of mobilisation of its members, but especially those members themselves who did not hesitate to show their interest to participate in such forums… However, please note that we do not know the reasons for the cancellation and believe that if necessary, subsequently communicate the reasons which led to the immediate cancellation of the Beijin forum, yet having previously received the high discharge of the Presidency of the Republic. Thank you for your understanding.

Going by the above communiqué from the Ministry in question, the reason for the cancellation is yet to be made known and Cameroon News Today- CNT stands on that.

Notwithstanding the entire population of Cameroon especially the business community waits impatiently to know why the forum was cancelled.

The reason for the cancellation when made public as Cameroon News Today- CNT believes, will serve as a lesson to the Government of Cameroon and will serve as reference in the future necessitating caution.
