Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana held a meeting on April 29, 2019 with the leaders of beer distributing companies in Cameroon regarding their declaration to stage a strike action to express their grievances.
The Minister gave the assurance during discussions with representatives of beer distributing companies on Monday 29th April 2019.
The Minister of Trade Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana says there will be no scarcity of beer in Cameroon
The representatives threaten to protest against what they consider the treatment from the brewery company Brasserie du Cameroun.
The meeting with representatives of the transport sector was opportunity to present a plethora of complaints against Brasserie du Cameroun.
The first and most important grievance is the low profit margin.
The distributors say the most recent price modification keeps them at 409CFAF for the transportation of a crate of beer.
Due to tax increase since January 2018 this profit margin has dropped and they are unable to pay workers and carry out maintenance of transporting trucks
The beer distributing company representatives also complained of the very short term contracts with Brasserie du Cameroon.
They wondered why a contract of over one hundred million should have only a one year duration.
Other unhappy distributors deplored the non-respect of contracts while others decried direct negotiation with retailers.
The Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana agreed with the points raised but exhorted them to engage in true dialogue
The brewery companies were given till 30th June 2019, to address the problems or face strike action.
