Eight Cameroonian athletes participating at the 2018 commonwealth games in Gold Coast Australia, have been reported missing.
The news about Ollivier Matam, Minkoumba Petit David, Arcangeline, Fouodji Sonkbou, Ndzie Tchoyi Christian, Fotsala Simplice and some others is making headlines everywhere on social and traditional media.
Cameroon is not experiencing such a situation for the first time. During the Olympic games in London in 2012, 7 Cameroonian athletes left the competition and were nowhere to be found.
Before now during the ongoing competition, it had earlier been announced that, three athletes had gone missing , Olivier Matam, Ndzie Tchoyi and Simplice Fotsala. The number has risen to eight, and there is still a possibility of the figures rising, as the competition is still going on.
The Australian government has warned athletes against overstaying their visas.
The Commonwealth Games Federation said it would monitor the situation but athletes had “the right to travel freely” on their visas.
The Australian Federal Police has been notified of the development, according to Kate Jones, a Queensland state government minister.
