[:fr]Staff delegates of the Douala City council this February 14 engaged on an indefinite hunger strike at the premises of the Douala city council.

Eleven months without getting any salary has had some incredible effects on these workers of the Douala city council. Some of them have been struck by health issues; others have simply been unable to continue sending their children to school while others have been unable to continue to pay their rents.

This situation according to these workers has been completely ignored by the government delegate of the Douala city council Fritz Ntone Ntone.

While talking to Vision 4, one of the said delegates Sosso Samuel declared that “we want political and administrative authorities to take into consideration this situation which violates the law. No law in Cameroon permits a Boss of a company to suspend its workers eleven months without salary”.

Abraham Baboute, Secretary General of Workers trade Union visited the strike site in a bid to show concern and support “we are going to use the national and international solidarity of trade unions to make the government delegate comes back to reason”

It’s worth it to note that they were all suspended last April 2017 for engaging in a strike at the city council as they were requesting for health insurance and some social benefits.

Cameroon News Today-CNT learned that, last October 2017, the representative of staff delegates decided to suspend their intention to engage in a hunger strike in a bid to let council officials seek for a comprehensive solution to their grievances.

Till today, the government seems to be completely silent and indifference to their plea.
