Cameroonian palm oil producing company Socapalm has accused a bunch of French newspapers of defamation.

SOCAPALM has filed a complaint against several French newspapers among which are Mediapart, Obs and Le Point. Two NGO’s, SHERPA and REACT are equally involved.

The proceedings began on Thursday 25 January 2018, at the court of first instance in Paris.

The biggest palm oil producing company in Cameroon, accuses these institutions of defamation.

Cameroon News Today-CNT gathered that, these media organs published some reports of Cameroonian indigenes accusing the oil company of taking their pieces of land.

According to the newspaper mediapart, 6000 Cameroonian villagers had come together to say no to the stealing of their land of 40 000 hectares by SOCAPALM.

The oil company has officially refuted the claims set forth by French newspapers against them.
